Our parasite lab at Otago Uni are hosting another series of bird dissection wānanga between 12-18 and 26-30 May. These manu are from the Dunedin Wildlife Hospital or DOC from around Otago’s takiwā. We’ll be dissecting, pelting and preserving materials together, so if anyone is interested in joining, either for a quick look, a few hours, or over multiple days, kei te pai! I’d love to have you join us. We also have some dates over a weekend incase a 9-5 Mon-Fri doesn’t suit. Any feedback on how the manu are processed, and if there is any way we can modify the process to suit your own manu kaupapa needs is also really welcomed.

Reporting to the Board of Kā Rūnaka, you will establish Hono ki Tua limited into a Limited company, establishing the business structure, keys policies, registering it as a company and ensuring it meets all its legal requirements. You will also assist the Board coordinate, consult and develop an education delivery model for Hono ki Tua.
Key experience and skills required for this position include:
• Previous experience establishing a limited company, including developing and implementing key legal documents and policies, brand development, and ensuring compliance with all legal requirements.
• Well-developed project management and business development skills.
• Experience managing recruitment processes.
• Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with a range of stakeholders.

SCOPE OF SERVICES
The Contractor will perform the role of Business Development Manager and will work closely with the appointed representation from Te Rūnanga o Ōtākou Incorporated, Kāti Huirapa Rūnaka ki Puketeraki Incorporated and Te Rūnanga o Moeraki Incorporated to establish Hono ki Tua Limited. Hono ki Tua Limited will deliver education programmes in each of the tribal takiwā of Ōtākou, Kati Huirapa ki Puketeraki and Moeraki. The Business Development Manager will play a key role in establishing Hono ki Tua as a charitable company and developing and maintaining key policies of Hono ki Tua Limited. Additionally, the Business Development Manager will handle recruitment and branding efforts, support the Board in developing an education delivery model and provide assistance on administrative tasks and reporting requirements.
Key relationships
The Business Development Manager will report to the Chair of the Hono ki Tua Limited Board. In addition, they will form relationships with, liaise with and collaborate with:

Reporting

Administration and other duties
In the course of setting up the Hono ki Tua Limited company, the Business Development Manager will:

Due to retirement, we have a position for a Kaiako Kaiārahi at Te Pārekereke o Te Kī, one of five early childhood centres that make up the Otago University Childcare Association. Te Pārekereke o Te Kī was an initiative founded by Kāi Tahu and supported by the OUCA as a place where Te Reo me ōna Tikaka Māori drives the curriculum and is strengthened within a bilingual whānau setting. Centre whānau choose Te Pārekereke o Te Kī as a place that supports their whole whānau commitment to te reo me tikanga Māori. We have about 30 children attending the centre daily and provide ratios of 1:4 for pēpi and 1:8 for nohinohi. We have a solid wait list of whānau.
The Kaiako Kaiārahi is responsible for leading the team of 7 qualified or in-training kaiako. They implement the philosophy and nurture relationships with children, whānau and the community. The Kaiako Kaiārahi is supported by the OUCA Manager, Administrator and Head Teachers of the four other centres.
We are looking for a Kaiako Kaiārahi who:
Has a high level of fluency in and is passionate about te reo me ōna tikanga Māori
Has experience in supporting the growth of te reo Māori
Has experience in a leadership position
Has a professional commitment to the provision of high-quality early childhood education
Is an early childhood qualified and registered teacher (or is prepared to complete the training).
We provide full pay parity (head teacher rate - $101,120) and 10+ hours a week of non-contact. The OUCA is part of the ECE Collective Agreement.

The Toitū Te Reo Workstream will bring together current activity into four critical programmes:

The purpose of this role is to represent the Ngāi Tahu perspective to the HSNO Komiti ensuring that any issues of tribal significance are reported to Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu while also ensuring that tribal matters of significance are represented to the Komiti.
Required skills, experience and qualifications
An understanding and knowledge of mahinga kai practice and species.
Familiarity with Ngāi Tahu tikanga and Ngāi Tahu tribal policy regarding the introduction, use or research into hazardous substances and new organisms.
Familiarity with legislation and government processes relevant to the work of the HSNO Komiti.
Familiarity with research principles, ethics and methodologies generally.
Familiarity with human health, medicinal, pharmaceutical, and/or nutraceutical issues and research.
Networks with whānau, industry, and/or government relevant to the issues before the HSNO Komiti.
Experience and expertise in the broad area of Genetic Modification, Hazardous Substances and introduction of new organisms.
Be open-minded and adopt a fair and transparent approach to the work of the Komiti.

Meeting details
As a minimum, meetings shall be held four times a year in Christchurch.
Remuneration of $750 for full Komiti Member per meeting plus reasonable travel and accommodation expenses.

The Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu nomination and appointment process is being undertaken to appoint a Ngāi Tahu representative to:
DOC Species Recovery Group - Hoiho (Yellow-eyed penguin), one position
DOC Species Recovery Group - Kākāpō, one position
DOC Species Recovery Group - Kea, one position
DOC Species Recovery Group - Galaxiids Large & Non Migratory, one position
Functions of the Species Recovery Groups
To recover the species from the threat of extinction.
Implement, monitor, and review the Species Recovery Plan.
Purpose of the role
The purpose of these roles is to represent the Ngāi Tahu perspective to the Species Recovery Groups - ensuring that any issues of tribal significance are reported to Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu while also ensuring that tribal matters of significance are represented.
Required skills, experience and qualifications
A keen interest in the conservation of threatened taonga species.
Ideally an understanding of relevant tikanga, including bird transfers and liaison with other iwi.
An understanding of Ngāi Tahu values in relation to species conservation and an ability to promote and articulate these values.
The ability to listen, analyse issues, participate in discussions, and reach consensus decisions.
Ideally able to communicate regularly by email.
The time and energy for Species Recovery Group meetings which includes an annual 1-3 day meeting, email correspondence and background reading.
Willingness to report back and keep the Office of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu informed of issues arising.
Willingness to meet with Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu representatives on other Species Recovery Groups to discuss and develop matters of mutual interest.
Willingness to liaise with Papatipu Rūnanga.

Meeting details
Normally an annual meeting of 1-3 days sometimes involving a field trip with a remuneration of $500 per day. Travel and accommodation expenses will also be met, either by DOC or Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu.
